Congratulations to Dr Maurice Chung recently inducted as the current President for The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) 2011-2012.

Maurice K. Chung, M.D., recently became the new Department Chair of Lima Memorial's Surgical Services. He is the president of the Midwest Regional Center for Chronic Pelvic Pain and Bladder Control and Alliance for Women’s Health, Inc., and President of the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS) and The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons SLS (2011-2012).

Dr. Chung’s focus during the last 20 years has been in advanced laparoendoscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery, urogynecology, the treatment of chronic pelvic pain, Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Pudendal Nerve Dysfunction, Urinary Incontinence, Endometriosis, and Interstitial Cystitis.

"I became a medical doctor to help people. I enjoy the challenge of working with my patients and offer the most current medical treatment options to relieve their medical symptoms,” said Chung. “It is a rewarding feeling to know that I can give women a better, more productive quality of life."

Dr. Chung is passionate about advancing his knowledge and helping others do the same. When he is not seeing patients or in the OR, Dr. Chung works as a Clinical Associate Professor of OB/GYN at The
University of Toledo School of Medicine.

“Listening and understanding the concerns of my patients allows me to become a better physician as well as a good teacher. I will never stop learning and advancing my knowledge in this expanding and
ever-changing field of medicine," added Dr. Chung. In addition, Dr. Chung is actively involved on many local, national and world-wide professional societies. He is the president of the International Pelvic Pain Society (IPPS 2011) and president-elect of the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons for 2012.

He graduated from the Northeastern University College of Pharmacy, Boston, Mass. and received his medical training at Tufts University School of Medicine from Boston, Mass. He performed his residency at Albany Medical Center, N.Y.

Dr. Chung is a member of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and has been accredited in Advanced Laparoendoscopic Surgery by the Accreditation Council of Gynecologic Endoscopy
(A.C.G.E.) of A.A.G.L. in 1995.

.Congratulations to DR Smaili for his first year completed in Lima Ohio!  

 Dr Smaili (smile-ee)  completed an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at The University of Toledo Medical College.

 Dr Smaili and his wife have two sons.  When he is not busy delivering babies, he loves spending time with his family and riding bikes.  He also enjoys visiting with his extended family in Toledo, Ohio.
